Fausto Salvi is a ceramic artist with a career spanning thirty years, marked by a wealth of international experiences including exhibitions, artist residencies, workshops, and lectures. His foray into design and product creation began with the Compound project for Henge.
The Compound is a table lamp that combines metal and ceramic. Metal forms the lamp’s structure, while ceramic, Salvi’s primary medium in his artwork, is used to create its central element. This central part, the ‘heart’ of the lamp, consists of a series of elements arranged together to mimic the archetypical shape of a house.
The lamp’s name, “Compound,” alludes to its design: it represents a collection of buildings serving similar functions or purposes, often enclosed within a boundary. This concept of housing is a recurring theme in Salvi’s recent works, and the lamp’s design is a variation on this theme. The metal structure of the lamp, on the other hand, reflects the aesthetics of industrial objects, characterized by mechanical components and pipes.
